About Me

My interest in academic coaching began with my own educational experience. After struggling in high school, I entered university and my academic performance improved dramatically. I accomplished this by learning how to learn, influence my motivation, and manage the wide range of demands of post-secondary education. This experience also transformed my self-image from someone who was "bad at learning" to someone who, with the right strategies, could do well in school.

This experience left me wanting to develop a deeper understanding of learning, motivation, and academic success. I wanted to understand:

  • What does it take to do well in post-secondary education?

  • What influences learning and motivation?

  • How can more students have a positive and transformative experience in post-secondary education?

After working as a social worker with youth for five years, I decided to shift directions and pursue these questions professionally. I began working as an academic coach with Study Spot Educational Services and later deepened my knowledge and professional commitment by completing a Master of Professional Education in Teaching Students with Exceptionalities at Western University.

Today, I have developed, and continue to refine, my own approach to academic coaching and student success. I believe that struggling post-secondary students with exceptionalities can succeed when they receive intensive, professional support in a few key areas:

Ultimately, my goal is not simply to help students get through their current semester. It is to help them understand themselves as learners and develop the skills they need to navigate future challenges more independently. With the right support, students can become more confident in their ability to manage school and better equipped to adapt as their academic and life demands change.
